What’s Boise Public Library’s Writing Workshop all about?
The Writing Workshop is a hands-on program for adult writers who want to share and discuss their work.

What will I be doing in the Writing Workshop?
Workshop participants have two roles: writer and reader. As writer, you’ll share your work and listen to feedback from fellow attendees; as reader, you’ll read others’ work, offer feedback, and suggest strengths and areas for improvement. Those who attend regularly will be reading others’ work in advance, sharing their feedback at meetings, and submitting their own work.

What can I bring to the workshop?
Fiction (short stories, flash fiction, novel excerpts) and creative nonfiction (personal essays, micro-memoirs, and memoir excerpts). The word limit is 5,200 (approximately 15 double-spaced pages).

Do I need to bring work to every meeting?
No – writers submit drafts on a rotating basis. In most cases, we’ll devote an entire session to two writers. We’re happy to add to the rotation any time.

What if I’m not yet a great writer — or a great reader?
Then you’re in the right place! Our workshop is a collaborative environment in which aspiring writers can share their work and provide feedback — not as experts, but as folks who like to write and read.

Who facilitates the Writing Workshop?
Librarians Lorie Broumand and Heidi Lewis (fellow non-experts who like to write and read). The facilitators are responsible for copying and distributing the drafts you bring.

When and where are the Writing Workshop meetings held?
On the first Tuesdays of the month, 7pm, in the Marion Bingham Room on the third floor of the Main Library.
